J.D. Edwards and Microsoft Provide Strong Technology Solutions for Government

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 25, 1999--

State and Local Governments Benefit from Enterprise

Software and Windows NT; Joint Solution Helps

Governments Streamline Operations

Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) and Microsoft today announced that the two companies are working together to deliver tailored solutions for the state and local government sector or market.

J.D. Edwards enterprise solutions for state and local governments running on Microsoft's NT platform will offer technology-driven solutions to improve information management capabilities, enhance workflow, facilitate fiscal and service delivery efficiencies and measure performance to ultimately serve citizens better, improve operations and reduce tax-dollar spending.

More than ever, governments recognize the value of information technology to improve revenue collection, provide increased access to information and streamline delivery of government services. With privatization pressures, citizen demands for service and diminished funding, governments must integrate technology and tools to help them do more with less -- while balancing the managerial and financial challenges specific to their industry. And while legacy systems worked well in the past, they are unable to integrate technologies necessary for the future success of government, such as Internet-enabled applications, E-Business and knowledge management.

J.D. Edwards' AIMx (Asset Investment Management and Execution) for government framework and Idea to Action(TM) software help governments enhance efficiencies by managing the life cycle of critical assets, providing enabling technology and efficiently handling changes in business processes. The AIMx framework for government helps automate the process of conception to development to post delivery support of services to constituents.

"J.D. Edwards' financials, procurement, human resources and public works solutions give local and state governments the ability to reduce redundancy, share information across agencies and increase citizen-centered business processes while complying with GASB and GAAFR requirements," said Allen Winder, vice president and general manager of J.D. Edwards' public services practice.

Driving forces behind the growing demand of Windows NT in state and local governments are its ease of use and maintenance, greater efficiency, faster response times and availability of applications spanning the government sector.

"J.D. Edwards' relationship with Microsoft can bring something unique to the client/server marketplace -- rapid, economical and predictable implementations of enterprise solutions for state and local governments," said Connie Dean, Microsoft's industry marketing manager for state and local governments. "J.D. Edwards' use of Windows NT enables them to provide our government customers with significantly enhanced business functionality and performance on a low-cost, standardized platform."
