The Wenatchee Gold Belt project is located near the city of Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington, 190 miles west of Yamana's corporate offices in Spokane. The gold belt is a northwesterly trending linear structural zone at least 9 miles long and up to 0.5 miles wide, containing extensive gold and silver mineralization. Two mines, roughly in the center of the belt, have produced about 1.6 million ounces of gold. The Cannon mine, operated by Asamera Minerals Inc. until 1994, produced approximately 1.25 million ounces of gold and 2 million ounces of silver from ore grading 0.290 oz/t Au. The L-D mine, operated by Lovitt Mining Company, is located approximately 1.5 miles south of the Cannon mine. Between 1949 and 1967, it produced about 400,000 ounces of gold from ore averaging 0.400 oz/t Au. Although these were underground mines, both had some surface mineralization.
The remainder of the gold belt, which has been defined by hundreds of deep exploration holes drilled by Asamera and others along the 9-mile trend, is covered by alluvium and sedimentary and volcanic rocks for depths ranging from a few hundred feet to over 2,000 feet.
