Morton Downey, Jr. Selects Pacel Corp's Web Hosting and Design Services for His New Web Show Debuting in Spring
Business Wire - May 25, 1999 10:31
MANASSAS, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 25, 1999--Pioneer talk show host Morton Downey, Jr. has selected Pacel Corp. in Manassas, Virginia, to provide the web hosting and design services for his new Web show slated to debut in the Spring.

The new show will feature segments from the nationally syndicated Morton Downey, Jr.'s Discovering Wall Street television show which features interviews with CEOs of up-and-coming new companies, as well as commentaries about pertinent news events and interviews with important newsmakers.

Describing his reasons for selecting Pacel Corp., Downey said, "In this era of high technology proliferation where changes move faster than light, we felt it necessary to deal with an organization that also moves faster than light. I believe that Pacel can provide the services that best meet the requirements of my new web show."

David Calkins, President of Pacel Corp., said, "We are excited and delighted to be working with Morton Downey, Jr. We hope to create a service which will reflect Downey's outgoing personality and cutting edge approach to the stories he covers.. It will be a real challenge."

Founded in 1994, and located in Manassas, Virginia, Pacel is publicly traded on NASDAQ, OTC, BB (PLRP). The company provides for total solutions for managing and improving business flow processes. It engages in providing computer hardware, systems integration services and software products and recently expanded its capabilities to include custom software development and web pages.

Morton Downey, Jr. blazed new trails when he launched his revolutionary television talk show, The Morton Downey, Jr. Show, in 1987. The program, which was seen on more than 150 stations covering 92% of the nation, invented upfront audience participation allowing the audience in the studio to voice the concerns of "the common person." It was -- and still is -- the highest-rated TV talk show in history.

Even the "Grandfather of Talk Television" -- Phil Donahue -- modified his format and started mingling with the audience after the success of Downey. THE MORTON DOWNEY, JR. SHOW was the forerunner of numerous confrontational talk shows which followed, but none could equal the success of the original. During his tenure on the air, he blazed a trail for others to follow.

Downey, who recently was added to The Palm Springs Walk of Fame, currently hosts a nationally syndicated TV financial talk show, Morton Downey. Jr.'s Discovering Wall Street, focusing on developing new businesses.

In 1996, Morton Downey, Jr. was appointed by President Bill Clinton as Chairman of the President's Advisory Committee on Teenage Tobacco Use. He also serves as spokesperson for the American Lung Association, heading a campaign aimed at preventing young people from getting hooked on cigarette smoking. Downey, who gave up smoking in 1996 kicking a 50 year cigarette habit, is spokesperson for a new behavior modification toll called "Quit Smart."

Following the third season of the nationally syndicated Morton Downey, Jr. television show, Mort signed with CNBC Television where he hosted two new talk shows in 1990 and 1991, entitled Showdown and Downey. In 1992 and 1993, Downey hosted a popular national radio call-in show from Washington, D.C. and then Chicago.

In 1994, Downey moved to Southern California with his wife and young daughter to pursue additional television opportunities. In recent years, Morton Downey, Jr. has become a sought-after actor. He recently completed a starring role in Chris Coppola's feature film, Palmer's Pickup, which also stars Patricia Arquette, Harry Connick, Jr., Robert Carradine, Alice Ghostley and Clu Gallagher.
