Me too. Once you get your bearings you don't take things for granted as much as you did before.

I think it was the next Oct. or maybe 2 years passed and we had the Oakland Hills fire. I watched it from the same apartment. I grabbed a chair and a screwdriver (the drink) and I watched that thing through my sliding glass door. It was amazing. I was calling people to tell them to evac. as I saw it move towards there houses. I wanted to dooooo something. The media said they needed food for the firefighters. I ran to the store and bought 2 loaves of bread and some lunch meat and made sandwiches. I ran down to the Oakland Salvation Army (in China Town) and saw the most amazing sight. People from all over the Bay Area were bring food. People of all walks of life, all ages, all colors, all socio economic groups. Running through the streets bring food. Big trucks and vans from other cities and county's bringing food. I just stood on the corner in China Town and sobbed it was so beautiful. I am crying now. People with no cars were taking mass transit to help sort the food. It must have been the very next Oct after the earth quake. I wil never ever forget that sight.
