lorrie, you have seen the famous Life photo of Times Square on VJ day, where the GI kisses a girl exuberantly, no? That is your answer, YAHOO, THE WAR IS OVER AND WE CAN GET DOWN TO SOME SERIOUS BUSINESS!!! Even Paul Fussell, who can be quite dolorous on the horrors of combat, has said that he and his pals (soldiers in the Pacific) were relieved that the bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered, and that they were spared an invasion, and to this day he believes that using "The Bomb" saved his life...
