OK, a last word on golf. Perhaps we are not a "Golf Culture", but we are damn close in relative terms. More people play golf than hunt, yet we are called a gun culture. More people play golf than run, yet major road races explode with runners. More people play golf than tennis and soccer combined. More people play golf than skiing and baseball combined. And football, which has become the new national pastime, lags golf by a margin of more than 3:1.

And finally, I would wager that 26 million golfers here (probably more by now) easily eclipses any other country's golfing population.
