Bill, we are speaking of participation. More people watch football, and follow it in the news, then follow golf. Now, I don't know about the raw numbers, and eclipsing other countries, but look at high school sports. How many high schools have golf teams? Of those that do, what is the relative popularity between golf and football (or basketball for that matter)? Just because we have been called a "gun culture" on shaky grounds, does that bolster the claim that we are a "Golf Culture", especially when golf is more of a class- bound activity than many other sports? Is golf as much a part of the culture as baseball or football? Does any golf pro besides Tiger Woods do commercials? And finally, it came in way down on the list... |
