No, not because they once were valued higher. They once were valued lower as well.

Because of their future earnings; Yahoo controls (in a loose, but profitable sense) so many high quality Internet users. They've been successful to date because they provide valuable networked resources, content, and "environments", and people use those in a habit-forming way. I think they're very well positioned to continue strengthening their user base.

P.S. An added note: Sad to say (for this area's traditional broadcast programming efforts), but Yahoo's Alternative Rock radio station stands head and shoulders above any similar Denver area wireless station.
