Not convinced..
Even if you're right about the motives I cannot believe that the US would dare to make such a provocative move, tantamount to declaring war on China. I guess you believe that China has done something much much more serious than has been made public.
One would have to believe that this pretense of a mistake is meant purely for public consumption, both in the US and abroad, and that there have been secret communiques telling the Chinese that this is just an example of the type of behavior they can expect if they continue with "their evil ways". And that they've kept these communiques to themselves.
One would have to believe that either NATO is in collusion or that NATO has been kept in the dark, neither of which is credible. It's just not possible that an operation with such gargantuan potential for escalation could be kept secret by those involved in the US or by NATO, especially when an immediate and present danger of any magnitude is clearly lacking. This is just a whacky conspiracy theory that you and others are propagating which would be too ridiculous to take seriously if the stakes weren't so enormous.
It's true that the official explanation is VERY HARD to swallow. Maybe the real truth would prove even more incredulous, demonstrate even greater stupidity.
Just in case you need to be reminded the demise of the Soviet Union has left the US sorely lacking for enemies upon which to focus. It's true that the Soviets were intent upon expansion and the Chinese certainly are not shrinking violets but a lot of the crap that was trumped up during the Cold War probably just served to make things worse, the missile gap for example. US and Western intelligence completely missed the collapse of the Soviet Union they were so bloody paranoid. This conspiracy you're talking of would have to have at it's foundation a level of paranoia vis a vis the Chinese which I don't think exists, at least yet, something akin to what caused Kennedy to go after Castro. The kind of build up we've seen on this Chinagate thing is just rinkydink in comparison to McCarthyism. And Clinton, whether you love him or hate him, is just not capable of doing anything that would require such decisiveness.
No I think you've been spending too much time at the multiplex.

PS..Yes I think there's a very good chance we're headed for the low 80's, even if only briefly, and probably not tomorrow. |
