I would not place too much confidence in gold as a leading indicator of bond yields. A major reason for the downwards price performance in gold over the last several months is the fact that several central banks have announced they will be liquidating significant portions of their holdings of gold. The economy has changed enough over the past few years so that I would be very cautious of using statistical correlations based on historical trends.

And, oh yeah, the next time you chat with wee willie, ask him if he ever took mooter up on his wager.
