Well folks, I'm not much in to the political thing, but thought I'd toss this out for the heck of it. This old world can be a very terrible place from time to time, and then it will surprise us with its awesome beauty. Somehow, it is incumbent upon us all to fight the good fight--the fight for tolerance, fellowship, and the simple truth that "differentness" is the most evil fraud of all. And the most widespread. This weekend we will send our graduating daughter out into that world in a ceremony called, ironically, 'commencement'. It is axiomatic that there can be no beginning without an ending, and yet these starry eyed kids look only forward at this moment, never back. And that is how, I suppose, it SHOULD be. At least for now. Soon enough they will cast a retrospective eye, and recall halcyon days. What will be remembered? Friendships shared, battles won and lost, triumphs and tragedies, and maybe, just maybe, those times of courage when 'differentness' was conquered--indeed embraced. That is what I wish for you all. Kind regards, Mike Doyle |
