SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 1997--Verity Inc., (NASDAQ:VRTY), a leading provider of search and retrieval applications for the enterprise and Internet/Intranet, today announced that its SEARCH'97 Developer's Kit, SEARCH'97 Information Server and SEARCH'97 Personal products now offer support for Japanese, traditional-Chinese, simplified-Chinese and Korean languages.
Projects involving Asian language localization of other Verity products, such as SEARCH'97 CD-Web Publisher and SEARCH'97 Agent Server Toolkit, are also under way and targeted for completion later this year.
In an effort to expand the use of SEARCH'97 globally, Verity extended the SEARCH'97 platform by developing multi-byte capabilities and a lower-level API specifically for linguistic add-on modules. Verity's partners, NEC, Omron Alphatec and 3Soft, were then able to leverage Verity's development efforts by adding the multi-byte character sets and morphological (word-breaking) technology for support of all of the major Asian languages.
The development effort brought together highly accurate word-breaking technology with Verity's powerful search engine, thereby allowing the SEARCH'97 products to perform indexing and searches in the supported languages. The localized versions of SEARCH'97 Developer's Kit, SEARCH'97 Information Server and SEARCH'97 Personal will be available initially on NT and Solaris platforms, and later on Windows95, AIX and HP-UX.
NEC will distribute the products in Japan through more than 1,000 distributors. 3Soft will distribute in Korea through various OEMs, distributors and systems integrators. OMRON will also distribute the products in Japan, as well as in China (both traditional and simplified versions).
As a result of the partnerships, Verity is now offering language support for Japanese, traditional-Chinese, simplified-Chinese and Korean through its U.S. OEM, distribution and end user channels.
"We are extremely excited about the availability of our products for these key markets," said Philippe Courtot, chairman and CEO of Verity Inc. "As a result of the joint effort, customers throughout Asia will have access to search products that combine Verity's world-class search technology with the best morphological expertise available."
