You are allowed to flip an IPO -- just don't be surprised when your future "indication of interest" on a hot IPO is ignored. Underwriters want (and have an obligation to place stock with) investors who will support a new issue. I assume there is not set formula, but I suspect that "strong hands" investors are rewarded over time. JMHO.
