Bob, I suspect that you overestimate your own autonomy in these matters (why does one thing intrigue you and another not?), but I have no objection if it is workable for you. However, philosophy is like any other discipline: we stand on the shoulders of giants, and should not have to re- invent the wheel. Anyway, I try not to take credit for the ideas of others, and also have sometimes written to elaborate on intellectual history, which I consider to be important in understanding how we got to where we are. From that standpoint, you should at least find the references mildly interesting, I think:-)...I mainly care whether or not you make sense. Have I treated you otherwise? I thought that we agreed that the Sagan thing was not a big deal?...Hmm, Frederic Church? Maybe Vermeer....
