Do you know for a fact it's margin calls or just a technical breakdown? Stock traded down yesterday when some positive news was announced which was a warning sign (stock traded up 1/2 or more 2 years ago - late 95 - on similar patent news in Japan). Then today it opened up and suddenly dropped; when it broke support? at 4.5 it plummeted. So was it margin calls (which I doubt) or stop loss orders combined with general panic?
