Jim, Yikes! And here I thought you were just a Wall Street impressario--imagine my shock to learn that a techno-geek was lurking under those suspenders.
It now appears that Surfette is indeed a single band kinda gal, that being of the 1900 variety. What your great post finally made me realize is that for a call to ORIGINATE, the little signal wave form must cuddle up to the warm friendly arms of a base station somewhere, and that IF it does, then we're off to the races and we can chat with damn near anybody anywhere connected to the wired world. [and I guess to all the wireless folks who are somewhere near THEIR base station] Howsover, if we can't take that first step, it's game, set, and match. Hang it up, good night Irene. How am I doing?
On a pragmatic level, do we have any idea when Sprint will complete their national footprint? I understand that they're about the best there is (i.e., the biggest for digital PCS coverage) but as we are now discovering, there seems to be quite some way to go. Is this a 2 year thing or a 20 year thing?
More important issues: pool game deteriorated badly following biz school when it was at its peak--had a ton of time plus I didn't have to look thru bi-focals. Net result is that I now attempt to make shots that I no longer have in the bag, so to speak. That said, I held the table for 2 1/2 hours at the Pump House in Georgetown last trip, much to daughter's delight as all the 20-somethings tried and failed to get me buying beers.
Don't know how well a cheesesteak travels, but happy to give it a whirl. Thanks again for your post. Best, Mike
