Ibexx,

There is so much misinformation to this whole thing that I would just wait for 24 or 48 hours and see what comes out of the trade show.

There are just too many variables to look at inorder to judge a microprocessor. For example, depending on cache size used and the function that the processor is designed for, clock speed might not mean a whole lot. For example, if you are running a server. A Pentium 133 optimized for that use with the appropriate cache can perform better than a Pentium 200 multimedia computer. So when AMD or any chip maker starts throwing out random bits of performance specs I look but I don't bite. Jerry McGuire said, "show me the money" we all need to say "show me the chip".

AMD can say anything it wants. Until that chip is out there in the market it really doesn't matter. If the company has lied or played with the truth and then starts backpeddling - saying well when its Tuesday in Albequerqe and the toaster is plugged into the power saver then we can run Multimedia faster than any Pentium chip out at this time - the market isn't going to look favorable upon AMD or or those vendors who use their chips.

Bottom line, even then it will be hard to know the full impact.
All I do know is that Intel has a history of crowding the market with a dizzying array of processors, nudging the competition to a
price/performance point, and then trashing that point.

Whenever that K6 comes out, Andy Grove will know what specific devices it works best in; be it laptop, multimedia, server or whatever and prices will come down on those intel chips that compete in that segment and or be tuned to improve performance.

Just one mans rambling opinion,
Brian Malloy
