Unless you're prepared to take on the whole universe at once, I'd keep the number of point solutions down to one at this time, namely the head end and the FTTH provisions.

I meant a beam splitter. I wouldn't presume to get into message authentication just yet. Getting a physical layer model established for basic connectivity is all that I can contend with for the moment.
