<drugs> What they are above all else is a mercy. I have Imitrex and narcotics as my first-line defense against migraine. Usually they'll abort, interrupt or soften the headache to where I can get in the car and go to work. Someone here (or at the sister thread Feelies) posted a real chuckler about not wanting to waste Demerol tablets on pain. I'm the other way around. When I'm not in pain I'd rather not take a narcotic, the "high" is not my preferred stationary vacation. (There's other better things ... :-) )
But when I have a migraine going and the Imitrex didn't "tag it out" the narcotics are a Godsend. The art is to balance the dose such that pain is relieved but the "druggy" qualities of the narcotic aren't manifested. Really neat drugs that way - don't use them for "fun" and they'll serve you well. Like sitting by a fire - there's too far and there's too close. But hit the Comfort Zone and you've got the best of both worlds.
