The gentle light of Vermeer... hmmm... I think I like that. I used Church as a comparison because he was part of a school that advocated realism as a cure for romanticism and then romanticised their realism. I recognize that I spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel, but I also feel that if current thought is accurate I'll rediscover it and if it's not, then I'll discover what is without being swayed by what I've been led to believe. We have certainly treated each other well, and I have had little cause to complain. The Sagan thing was not that big a deal, but your disputation of him rather than my point was a bit ad hominem. If I had known Vermeer, and had noticed a jarring element in his work, I probably would have pointed it out to him. That is my nature. I also would have felt badly for doing so and would have regretted it. That is also my nature. And finally, if he had disputed my criticism, I would have defended it. At least to a point and regardless of any sense of guilt. That too is my nature. Kindly, -BLT
