Home Depot okays new shares, plans split
May 26, 1999 03:49 PM

ATLANTA, May 26 (Reuters) - Home Depot Inc. (HD) shareholders on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to allow the home improvement center company to double its number of authorized common shares to five billion.

After the Atlanta-based company's annual shareholder meeting, Chief Executive Officer Arthur Blank told reporters that the additional shares would be used for a stock split. However he declined to speculate on when the split might happen.

"The board at every meeting discusses a split and that decision will be made some day," Blank said.

During the meeting, holders of 79.8 percent of the company's outstanding shares voted in favor of the increase.
