Palm VII a lemon discussion continued.... Date : Mon 5/24/99 5:50 PM From: atomly@cirus.com To: newsfeedback@wired.com Subject: Palm VII
I found the article on the Palm VII (" Palm VII: 'A Definite Lemon', 21, May. 1999) really hit the nail on the head. I've been looking for a wireless solution for my PalmPilot for years now, but it seems this isn't at all what I need. A proprietary network, with an un-standard protocol that only runs specifically written apps is not the answer at all. I was holding my breath for the Palm VII, but after browsing www.palm.net, it seems buying a 19.2 Minstreal from a company like Go America would provide me better coverage, more bandwidth, and an actual TCP/IP stack. I thought that the days of metered usage for the average user were behind us, but it seems palm.net is bringing us such a beast. Palm, despite all of their past successes, really dropped the ball on this one.
