There is considerable support in the wiser minds in Congress to keep the spy sitiuation isolated . All countries spy on each other, even when they are allies. Both France and Isreal have spyed on the us in recent years. Non allies do it even more.,Spying is important to poor countries that aren't up to our technology - they don't have the talent or money to build on their own, and it's much cheaper to bribe a technician to give them needed information. We try to do the same, but our opponents technology is behind ours and thus often not worth stealing. We are also hindered by the fact that when it comes to gathering information on the ground, the USA has done a miserable job. After the Berlin wall fell we found that all of our undercover opperatives in East Berlin had been discovered. There were hundreds of communist agents in West Berlin who have never been caught. The real problem lies in the USA, it was up to us to devise system wheres pies are promptly caught. This is harder to do in a free society than in a dictatorship., but it is the freedom that in turn produces the best products. Will the security people responsible for this get fired and lose their pensions? Will the sme thing happen to th supervisers and dept heads who should have known what was going on. Will some of them go to prison? The answer is NO because we have no accountabillity in the system. Probably presidents are too far up the tottum pole to take blame unless they found out about it ,but did nothing. Mr. Clinton falls in thid latter catagorie, Not only did he know about the spying, he refused wire taps on suspects, delayed the investigation, and then when the news broke, he contiued his long term plan and lied. ALL in ALL I think the USA is more to blanme than China. This will evenyually blow over, China needs us badly. What other coutry is rich and big enough to support the sales of chinese exports? China needs us |
