MKEL response from FONR pr person is that a Quad 12k goes for 895k installed. And because of its opennes it will be suited for MRI guided surgery.
Also the machine can replace conventional x-rays by loading four beds and machine gunning the scan. He quoted MR snapshots for 80 dollars. He also said the machine is capable upmarket as well as down. And that
versatility is something that hospitals are interested in. That is getting away from lots of specialized machines in favor of a super duper general purpose machine. When you consider that one operator will handle that load...it is a compelling story.
Time will tell how much is PR and how much is substance. Better yet the market place will decide the issue for us.

In the face of the PR firms comments I do worry about my investment a bit, doesn't everyone? but It also just doesn't appear to be a fatal threat to it from the cost/ benefit/patient care stand point as much as it threatens the x-ray bizz as a better first line of detection.

I mean the minute the machine goes into a lengthy protocol or procedure its burning money. In a difficult case it does not matter how many beds are full they just wait their turn and throughput slows down a bit.. That's where the specialty machine may make a big difference if they do more for less.

It may be the Quad's 12k niche is in a setting where versatility is advantageous and there is room for specialty machines in specialized practices performing more delicate analysis.

It will come down to how much can the specialized machine be cost reduced to make it more available and competitive vs a full scale versatile.

Also there are services and I am sure you are aware of the trend to outsource which travel routes to location mounted on trucks to deliver care say daily and the Quad 12k may not travel well with its large foot print of 1000 sq feet. be like trucking a condo. Well there is trends and counter trends that's what makes the market so tough.

I wish everyone luck on this one lets hope there is room for all.. and we all make a few pennies.
