Its wrong!

Intel drives the technology of the PC motherboard market, and has done so for about 5 years. It set up its motherboard manufacturing division because it didn't think that the PC manufacturers were willing to switch from 486 to Pentium, unless someone had motherboards in the market with a technological lead which they all had to catch up with. That's why Intel has been prepared to stay in the motherboard market even though it is not directly profitable for them.

Intel has a 90% market share in chipsets. It wants to sell its latest and greatest processors, because that is its only defence against price errosion, and new entrants to the market.

It is a 100% cert that the day Camino is announced, there will be an Intel motherboard ready to ship, and I would expect one or two of the big name Taiwanese manufacturers to have product at the distributors in Europe and North America.

So this technology will happen. It happens to be technicaly good, but that is a bonus. PC133 simply is not a good enough technical advance to be worth going for. The DRAM manufacturers will make whatever there is a market for, royalty or no royalty.

The main reason it will happen is that right now Intel bet the company on just two plays, Rambus technology, and Merced. IMHO Merced is a dud, so they have to win on Rambus. Intel has an awesome marketing machine, excellent at creating pull through demand from end users. We should expect to see this in full gear this fall.
