Sarmad, This 500 share threshold typically applies to Nasdaq issues using market (not limit) orders (learned this lesson with an XCIT purchase last year)- I've never had a problem with Big Board issues such as AOL. Unfortunately Schwab doesn't publish which stocks they will guarantee you with an autoexecution and the qty. I'm pretty sure you can sell short using an ECN but I'm not the expert. Good trading!!
