Report: Charter Communications Plans to Buy Fanch

Reuters

NEW YORK, (May 27) - Billionaire Paul Allen's Charter Communications is expected to announce Thursday it will buy Denver-based Fanch Communications for $2 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The Fanch transaction would add about 550,000 customers to Charter's fast-growing base, the newspaper said.

Paul Allen is known for his dreams to build a cable empire, but also for his role as the co-founder of Microsoft Corp.

St Louis-based Charter announced on Wednesday it would buy Falcon Communications for $3.6 billion in cash and stock, bumping Charter into the No. 4 slot among U.S. cable operators. The $3.6 billion included $1.6 billion in debt.
