scott..the threat from compaq is not as a white box maker....
remember ibm when gerstner took over...cpq in disarray now, but it's not going to fall off the earth....it does have earnings, and is profitable...new gerstner or armstrong type ceo, immediately impact bottom line with job cuts, get direction in profitable segments and concentrate on them...
dell and ibm alliance...at this point ibm is the dominant partner......not to spread rumors, but applying business logic, if ibm stock price expands, gerstner may be looking for bargains....dell at low levels may be attractive...no cash...stock swap deal.... don't underestimate the competition, dell has cleaned up in their arena, they are the king of the pc's, will always be, and as in boxing, if their are no real challengers to fight, you can't get a high price for a ticket....the "losers" ibm, hwp, and even cpq, are smart enough not to challenge, they merely are competing in a different sport....dell not yet in their league.... |
