What nonsense! I just waded through about 20 posts and with all the bickering, not one word about EMC and what its prospects are for the future. What the hell is there to bicker about? I bought my first EMC for $5 a share shortly after the Gulf War. I still have every one of those original shares and my cost basis is soon to be $0.21 a share. When I sell, I will pay 20 percent capital gains.
I also trade. That is what I live on. I wouldn't brag about a 62 per cent gain for 5 months. That is only approximately 200 per cent per year. Now factor in about 50 percent for taxes, trading costs, etc. and you are down to only 100 percent per year. That's not enough for me to live on.
Now compared that to my long term EMC gain of $100/.21 = 47,620 percent over 8 years minus 20 per cent for taxes, yielding 38,000 percent gain for the eight years or an average of of over 4,500 per cent per year (non compounded).
So, you pays your money and take your choice. Trade, hold long term or some of both. Your choice. However, you should do your homework in either case.
I am one who believes in extreme due diligence and I walk the walk in that respect. Clearly, no one posting here does. We used to have great discussions concerning the impact of this new thing called RAID technology and where storage technology was going and the future for it, etc., etc.
No such discussions being held here any more except for the occasional cogent post of Bill Fischofer. I agree with him that some of EMC's best gains are yet to come. All I see here is posting and reposting of press releases and analysts comments. No one here is contributing any original thinking anymore, including myself.
Just my humble opinion for what it is worth. |
