If Uncle Alan lowers rates after an '87 type event it would be to avoid recession not cause one.

Raising rates here would be a huge mistake with the weakness of G7 currencies, to say nothing of their economies.

And I'm not sure it would be wonderful for our debt laden economy either. Especially since Clinton has put us in a position of financing the deficit through mostly short term paper.
