Lay low vs. lie low. I was just goofin' around, E.

But interestingly enough, the American Heritage Dictionary (the best single-volume dictionary for usage), gives both "lie low" and "lay low", with slightly different meanings for each:

1) Lie low: To keep oneself and one's plans hidden.
2) Lay low: (Slang) To stay out of sight; to hide.

And I think "lie low" might even be better than "lay low" to describe the actions (or non-actions) of such an Inscrutable Being as the Deity. <g>

And who said definitions could not excite emotions, anyway? (Edit: emotions in the sense of "Feelings", of course.)
