Stefan,
Everyone asking about what Fujitsu even wants with Ross and why even bother with this company. Correct me if I'm wrong Stefan I thought that you worked for AMD, and AMD payed an arm and a leg to buy nextgen which amounted to nothing more than a 15 man design team. A couple of years later the fruit of that investment is finally starting to pay off and that design team is keeping AMD in the CPU game. The viper goes to tape in the fourth quarter of fiscal 97'and product intergration in 6-12 months after that. First the market will not move beyond 64-bit, they did'nt really even need to leave 32-bit yet. The preliminary estimates I heard were that the performance would close to double that of the Ultra Sparc 3, at least in spec 92 performance. The old saying in semi's is that the best semiconductor is the one on the drawing board, so I don't know if I would run with those expectations. The point is if they do come in with a next generation processor the implications are big. Fujitsu knows this as does Sun, The idea is not to match Sun's performance they can do that now with the 200 mhz hypersparc( same as ultra 1) but to leapfrog ahead.
