DoubleD, is this YOUR opinion or do you have proof?:
"Right in the sense that you made an assertion which was dubious and in fact it could be argued was the opposite of what was true."

1) If 15% gold holdings for the Euro is good, is that because it makes their currency sttrong?
2) Does a strong currency for semi resource countries cause recessions when commodity demand diminishes?
3) Would a free floating rate exchange mechanism suggest that your countries currency is based on the economical, fiscal and political policies of the country and less on the reserve assets holdings.

Now if you put 1, 2, 3 together would that help to explain the Euro?
And would removal of 1, prevent 2? And then would 3 be the reaason the CAD has risen lately. Cause there is no surgence of buying in the commodities, say copper, recently.

My opinion:
Canada promoted Maple Leaf Coins so they could get rid of their GOLD. I would assume that by promoting sales that it would be less intrusive then just dumping it onto the markets. Did they not sell at a MUCH higher price then where gold is now? But demand sucked then, much like now... {NOTE: before you say that demand is high, go back and read where I compared the reported demand levels from Eagle and WGC. These guys can't agree either}
