Microsoft Accused of Charging IBM More to Install Windows Operating System

>Garry Norris, who negotiated Windows licensing agreements
for IBM, said a Microsoft executive told him several times that
Compaq Computer Corp. ''pays a lower price than you because they
don't compete with us. Because you compete with us, you are going
to suffer unfavorable prices and terms and conditions.'' <

>The witness also testified that, when he was in charge of selling IBM's
OS/2 operating systems, Microsoft threatened retaliation against
Compaq and Hewlett-Packard Co. if they used the IBM product instead of
Windows. ''I was simply told repeatedly (the other computer makers)
feared retaliation from Microsoft,'' Norris said. A Compaq official told him
the company dropped plans to load IBM's rival OS/2 system after
Microsoft made the threats, said Norris. ''We don't want you to license
OS/2,'' Norris quoted the Microsoft official as saying.<
