>>I didn't grow up under Communism, I grew-up under something much worse. So terrible ....>>

I'm not aware of your past. If you've not already elaborated on this thread... would you care to tell? I think that your story could give some of us a "reality check."

I've been reading some cold, factual accounts of the russo-german war, and am impressed by the fighting skills displayed by the wermacht. On the other hand, these cold, factual accounts of war on the front lines don't touch upon the gruesome reality of what was happening - behind the lines.

It has been theorized that "God" used Germany to punish Russia for her "godless communism." When this was sufficiently carried out, the Germans had served their purpose and their own country was destroyed. Arguably the upshot of all of this was the creation of modern-day Israel.

In any case a reading of the events of the Eastern front - nay the entire war - does point to the divine hand of "God," making a mockery of human decisions. There is sort of an eerie "destiny" behind the Battle of Stalingrad, for instance.

I have a million other comments about the conduct and events of that war (the study of ww2, with a specialty of the russo-german war is my avocation), but they're probably not necessary here.

In any case it would probably be instructive for some of us here (I would appreciate it in any event) if you were to elaborate on the conditions surrounding your youth.

If my message seems a bit strange, please trust that I state what I state and ask what I ask, only in the interest of fairness.

Getting back to the russo-german war, one thing which impresses me most about the men of both sides is that they were - for the most part - extremely tough. The hardships faced by the men of both sides make America's latest military ventures look like a "walk in the park" by comparison.

It is the sort of toughness I would expect the forces of NATO to need were they ever to pull off a succesful ground campaign in Yugoslavia. Everything else aside, would NATO ground troops display that "will to win" were the campaign to open tomorrow?

Thanks In Advance (TIA) for any comments you care to add.

Shalom
Andy
