A brief rebuttal to "the retirement as a negative" position:

Joe's retirement is a GOOD THING for the company, not bad. Whether or not one believes Joe's tenure was positive or negative for the company in general, there is a large contingent of longtime shareholders who believe that he has in many ways become less than effective as the company's leader and that, in addition, the company could ill afford his relatively high salary at this point.

Personally, my perception, based only on what I know (which is far from everything!) is that I think Joe had both some triumphs and some failures...but that for many reasons it is good that the reigns have been handed over to Mike Rose, about whom I hear many good things. It was time for this change to happen....
