As I am sure you know, SUNW has tested and is readying for production their SPARC Ultra_III. Eric.sun on the SUNW thread evidently spent considerable time in the design of the Ultra_II and has expounded on the virtues of the newest version compared to Merced, specifically in high-end server/web applications. Consequently, I asked for his comments regarding the comparison of the SUN processor with Alpha. Please note his response:
