A long time ago in this board I presented my solution: green cards to the Kosovars. This is the only way that peace can be brought in Kosovo now that Nato attacked a sovereign country for "humanitarian" reasons. Sad but true.

So your solution is to make Kosovars who were born, raised, maybe even served in the Yugoslavian military, effectively "resident aliens" in their own homeland?

Somehow that just doesn't sound right. Especially since it appears that the Serbs were diligent enough to strip these people of their identity, their cash, their bank accounts, and ultimately their very homes.

Let's not forget that although Kosovars have ethnic ties to Albania, their economic ties were and are to Belgrade and Montenegro. The Albanians can't absorb them. The Macedonians don't want them, but the Serbs must be suffering some dislocation in the agricultural sector since the Kosovar fields are not producing goods.

The only alternative is to provide massive economic aid to Albania, but even that option has the Greeks nervous, and would likely create a political situation where there is constant animosity between Albania and Serbia, an animosity that would now have economic and military teeth.

That's pretty destabilizing considering not returning the Kosovars to their original status, WITH autonomous self-gov't and representation in Belgrade, will provide the fuel for inter-regional conflict for years to come.

What I think is still "realistic" is a NATO/UN protectorate that would likely last for 5-10 years or longer. It would provide a buffer between the KLA and the Serbs, the economic aid that would create the business ties necessary to prevent future support for massive conflict between the two ethnicities (people don't like to fight when it hits them directly in the pocketbook), and help to heal the wounds.

But Milo represents Serbian oppression to the Kosovars (and Bosnians and Macedonians). He must go and rational minds take over who can create an environment of tolerance.

I don't want to see Kosovo secede, nor merged with Albania. Rather, I want to create an environment, like in the US, where people of different ethnicities can live and do business ANYWHERE in the Balkans.

Regards,

Ron
