Re: green cards

> So your solution is to make Kosovars who were born, raised, maybe even served in the Yugoslavian military, effectively "resident aliens" in their own homeland?

If each refugee was asked "Would you like to return to Kosovo or come to the US?" I would guess that 99.99999% would jump on the chance to come here...I just drove by a Burger King here and it was closed again (due to lack of workers). US needs workers and if US was interested in genuine peace it would accept all the Kosovars to compensate for what it did to them. What do I mean by that? Don't forget that before the bombing started all these people were living a decent life in their homes while a relatively low level conflict was being fought by Yugoslav authorities against a terrorist group hell-bent on independence which was terrorizing Serb troops, Serb civilians, AND Albanian civilians not sympathetic to their cause (you know normal people just wanting to leave in peace).

> Somehow that just doesn't sound right. Especially since it appears that the Serbs were diligent enough to strip these people of their identity, their cash, their bank accounts, and ultimately their very homes.

Again Bombs changed everything. The country is in a state of war defending itself against a mighty coalition of 19 countries. Do not think I condone alleged atrocities if they were in fact committed. But try to be in their shoes when you see kids blown off around you and the Albanians wanting Nato..."you want Nato you go to Nato" seems perfectly acceptable to me while in a state of war. I expect to be flamed for this<g>

> That's pretty destabilizing considering not returning the Kosovars to their original status, WITH autonomous self-gov't and representation in Belgrade, will provide the fuel for inter-regional conflict for years to come.

The Yugoslav leadership has accepted the return of the refugees and an international peacekeeping force along with full autonomy. But no hint of independence and no Nato troops involved who have been bombing them for over two months.

Anyway, now this has gotten out of hand. The bombing has destabilized the region even more than before....for decades to come.

>But Milo represents Serbian oppression to the Kosovars (and Bosnians and Macedonians). He must go and rational minds take over who can create an environment of tolerance.

You, most people here believe that if Milo goes all is well and the US foreign policy idiots now have made it official that if Milo goes maybe they can come out as "winners". This assumes that whoever replaces Milo will be friendly to the West and will do as told. Milo is actually a moderate and the one who replaces may be a real "sumofabitch". Regardless, there is no way that anyone replacing him will give up Kosovo without a fight!

> I don't want to see Kosovo secede, nor merged with Albania. Rather, I want to create an environment, like in the US, where people of different ethnicities can live and do business ANYWHERE in the Balkans.

Every bomb that falls makes this progressively difficult...

Good talking with you, I used to be more active here before my son got sick. Now he is doing fine and we are in search of a nanny to save me!<g>
