Don't get me wrong, at the practical level, I agree with you. These days, people wonder why they want to waste their time in grad schools - or even colleges, for that matter - if they can turn pros [be it a software writer or a sport star.] And indeed, it may very well be a waste of time for some of these geniuses. OTOH, IMHO, education [formal or informal] goes beyond trade school or resume padding. The quote you pasted illustrates the problem perfectly
for obviously useless subjects like English and political science
