<<<1) What announcements do you expect to see next... is the USRX announcement good/bad for Amati and why?>>>
I honestly believe there'll be some announcement formalizing Amati's relationship with USRX. I don't know when. The Globespan announcement was expected. I've been told from Day One that CAP would be rolled out first. I'm always glad when ADSL is chosen, no matter what flavor. We can worry about DMT vs. CAP later --- when the chips are out and price per speed and quality are the only factors.
<<<<2) What happened at the Goldman Sachs conf? Any news?>>>>
All I heard was that JS did a fantastic job and that the analysts wanted earnings tomorrow---well, at least in the next quarter---before they'd get excited. It's the same old story. The pale-faced elders sitting around stroking their chins --- wondering whether DRAM prices were going up or down. . . Few have a clue what's going on. Yesterday in the CSCO/INTC/MSFT press conference NO ONE asked a single question about bandwidth capabilities for the multimedia applications they were pushing. Why???? Maybe we live in a world where everyone assumes the technology will be there when they need it and "wake me when it's here." Every CEO I spoke with at the RS conference was aware of ADSL and the importance to the Internet. But not the analysts. For $%$#@!! sake, Bill Gates is excited about ADSL, but the analysts can only yawn and say, "Show me the money." Okay, enough ranting. Amati's holding strong against the tide of small caps, so I should be glad. If Microsoft and GTE and Texas Instruments and a long list of others with far more knowledge than Wall Street are excited about DMT, I have to relax and let time do the rest. And to be fair, a lot of guys/women on the Street DO know about ADSL and even Amati and they know they're ahead of the curve. When that happens you have to be patient. Goldman Sachs is one who's out ahead of the pack. According to one source they've been buying for over a year. And I know they're talking with Amati right now.
<<<3) When can we understand the business model that Amtx has struck with TI and others?>>>
It's complicated so not easily explained --- the percentages are based on numbers of chips and modems sold and so on---so there's no way to get a definite answer. I've heard one figure on the chips but it's so high I've written to TI to get it validated. Don't want to start a gold rush. <g>
<<<<4) What is your guess on a Telcom relationship?>>>
At this point in time I'd probably like Alcatel, but I've heard names like France Telecom, and Fujitsu, and Siemens, and Philips, and NEC (for ADSL), and others bandied about. Heck, I'd like something with MCI. None of these come from Amati. They're just part of the skuttlebut that makes the rounds behind the scenes.
<<<I find it confusing if DMT with TI is "right around the corner" and TI has a partnership with USRX..why roll-out a CAP solution...when USRX could afford time to get there X2 product-line going?>>>
If you look at USR's 56K roll-out, you can't be too surprised they'd begin with CAP and move to DMT when it's ready. They clearly want to be the first to market with whatever high-speed solution they can find. Last night I read a long paper on 56K written by one of the world's largest ISPs and there are many problems with the technology. If I were USR, I'd want to leap over it as fast as I could. Just my take.
As for Amati news, as soon as it's ready, I've been assured I'll be the first to know.
Remember, all my babies were two weeks late. <g>
Cheers!
