Hi Frank:

My guess is a NGDLC. One inquiry I made to the PacBell engineer was whether I would receive the upper bandwidth capability of 1.5Mbps of PacBell's DMT DSL since the box would be about 1 mile away. Answer: "yes." So I don't see provisioning for narrower throughput as the intention here.

What I am concerned about is -- if & when. I seem to get the impression that PacBell would like to expand its DSL reach by provisioning IDSL for customers whose lines don't qualify for ADSL for various reasons. I am concerned that they may first be preoccupied with rolling out IDSL (expected in July) before deploying the special equipment up in the hills.

What's frustrating is that I hear about the impending deployment of this equipment, but no official announcement. And I live with the frustration of a mere ISDN connection . . .& expense everyday. Excuse me why I wipe the tears. <ggg>
