Ever heard of the Lusitania?

Yeah... wasn't that a British ship rumoured to be carrying ordnance, contrary to the statutes of maritime law for passenger vessels?

What were Americans doing traveling to visit a country at war and sailing on a foreign flagged ship to boot??

webcom.com

They didn't attack the US. We just got in the way of their war with Britain. And the Germans actually ran ads in the US newspapers stating their intention to sink all British shipping.

We declared way because of our opinion that there must be no restraint of free travel on the high seas. (as well as to secure our markets for armaments to the Allies)

Btw, there was something about a telegram that was sent to the Mexican gov't by the Germans that added to the tension.

Regards,

Ron
