I have often thought about a possible disaster scenario, Japan and many chip-producing island nations rest in the active fault zone known as the "Ring of Fire". Singapore seems far enough away, but a true cataclysmic event would bring huge tidal waves. But while it may benefit players with fabs in the US and Europe, its effect on the world economy might wipe out any benefit. Of course, California is just as likely to get crushed as well.

Intel recently expressed concern over their Japanese chemical and material supplier's readiness for Y2K, which may pose a nearer-term problem:
