Simpler process, at least using Netscape:

Open second Netscape window. (Control-N).

Go to the source in one window, in the other window open a reply message in the usual way on SI.

Cut from the response window, Alt-tab to other window, paste. Go back, grab the URL (simply put the mouse pointer anywhere in the Location window and click to highlight the entire URL, then Copy (Control-C), alt-tab back to the reply window, and paste.
