SL, keep in mind YOU would know what they are talking about in the synopsis, the general population would give you a blank stare. With your kid at G 8 or more even YOUR thinking might not be up to par. So what is informed consent REALLY worth with your child with G 8 and counting? Gotta trust those clinicians in these circumstances (G 8 or above) gotta trust them. People, full blown Meningo. is nasty, VERY nasty and every SECOND counts. Literally, EVERY second counts. Full blown Meningo. is just as much an emergency as someone losing volume, once again EVERY second counts. Once that cascade is kicked off, yep, every second counts. Now SL, is it ethical to have to wait for informed consent on G 8 or more? What if kid was found on playground and parents couldn't be located for IC quick enough? Should the clinician decide, even if it is a trial? Wouldn't it be much better to have these things decided beforehand when designing the trial, instead of looking at a parent's blank stare? You know it is the kid dying, not the parent. What about the kid's right to have someone with knowledge enough to even make the decision instead of a general population clueless parent? Only my opinions and off the cuff thoughts. |
