John, I'm sure all the big time NC proponents (Ellison, the Big Blue, SUNW, NSCP and others) must have considered the long term revenue, financial aspects etc. before jumping on to this bandwagon. As far as I can see, they expect one time sale revenue only from these machines for atleast the next 2-3 year time frame. Upgrades to NC 's would only happen if 1) it gets accepted in the market and 2) There is substantial improvement in the newer NC technology to warrant old users to dole out $$ go for the newer versions of hardware or software .
So, as of now, SUNW should be happy if it manages to push Javastation to all and anyone out there.
And as I had said earlier, SUNW should go all out, venture into new vertical markets, make the price really attractive, and last but not least, have enough software available to make it easy for NC buyers to install (plug and play preferred over shell scripts) these new devices onto their new or existing networks. And unless that happens I do not see Javastation as a GO. |
