Whirrled peas of a sort happened. Having no non-americans to hate as much as anyone with opposing politics, it is like the opening day of hunting season out there.

More importantly, attacking now and keeping the democrats on the defensive will ensure no more democrats (because they have possession of the white house at the moment) will be alive on the next election day. So republicans are convinced they will be able to control the House, the Senate, and the White House in 2001.

Now it is up to the public to decide that we would rather the politicans be extremely busy chewing on each others butt. Because, as soon as one party or the other gains a significant edge (remember the feeding frenzy of the contract ON America?) they will be looking around for new fodder. That will be the rest of us. We the public will be much better off if we keep churning (like your brokerage firm does with your investment account) the political ins and outs.
