If VISX loses its patent protection, then we will have lots of companies making low priced lasers. Eye doctors will buy the lasers outright and bypass companies like LCAV, LVCI, and OHSI. The industry will be crushed as will your and my investments. Eye surgery will be inexpensive and totally unprofitable from an investment prospective

Nothing wrong with healthy competition! Isn't that the American way? VISX first needs to lose their Royalty monopoly then the floodgates will open and companies like LCAV can offer a more reasonable price on the LASIK procedure. $500 less will motivate more patients to have this performed without negatively affecting their bottom line. Actually they can even further reduce their price and make it up on volume! The LASIK market is just in it's infancy, so there is plenty of room for competition. Again, volume will more than make up for any lower fees!
