I guess we need to define terms. You have two rollers, one for each axis, that tell your computer where the mouse is. Each roller rotates on a spindle or axle. (Plus you also have the spring-loaded roller that keeps the ball pressing against the info-rollers).

I get gunk built up on the rollers and it is usually a line of gunk around the middle of the roller. And sometimes I get tiny threads wrapped around the spindles at the ends of the rollers.

Is that any clearer?
